Better than a pale reflection of a dream or... Hey Mr. Tangerine Man, play my songs smoothly
I didn't think I would ever post anything new under the sun as far as iTunes or music or software for music. That is until I met Tangerine. As far back as iTunes 5 or 6 (the beginning of smart playlists) I had been looking for a good bpm application. When I say bpm, I mean the beats per minute, which is how the tempo of a song is rated. I have quite a large and ecelectic music collection, and I like to listen to similar speeds of music, but not necessarily the same genre. Everything I have found before has required me to click a mouse while it counts beats. Who has time for this? I might as well have just typed a number in there based off of a gut feeling.
So in comes a program called Tangerine by the Potion Factory. It analyzes all your tracks in your iTunes collection and calculates the bpm. Tangerine then allows you to transfer the bpm back to iTunes. It also allows you to make a new playlist based off of the bpm.
The best part about this program though is the thing I didn't know I wanted until I saw it, the Pattern Generator. The pattern generator allows you to pick a bpm pattern (similar to the stair stepper at the gym) for a length of time. This is great for the gym, work, parties, road trips, etc.
The only minus I can see with Tangerine is that it doesn't do DRM songs (Songs that you purchase from iTunes) But no doubt they are working on this. I look forward to what this program can do, and am going to go hit the gym today to test out a playlist. Thanks Potion Factory for reading my mind.
